About Welcome Autism
Why I Created This
Hi, I’m Caroline Mitchell, and I founded Welcome Autism because I’ve lived both sides of this issue.
As a parent, I have two autistic teenagers — one who needs significant daily support, and one who’s more independent but still faces challenges most people never see.
Over the years, I’ve watched how differently we’re treated depending on the business.
Some places just get it — they make us feel comfortable and welcome.
Others rush us, freeze, or stare.
I’ll never forget one moment when my older teen tried to order something by himself.
The staff grew impatient as he stumbled over his words — and I watched his confidence crumble.
That’s when I realised: it’s not just autistic people who need preparing for the world — the world also needs preparing for them.
That realisation changed everything.
I left my corporate real-estate career to build something practical — training that helps real businesses understand, support, and include autistic customers with confidence.
The Problem I Saw
When I went looking for autism training that actually worked, I found two extremes:
Corporate programmes built for huge companies with massive budgets.
Cheap “click-through” modules run by agencies offering hundreds of generic courses — often with no real trainer, no context, and no impact.
Neither helped small, everyday businesses.
So I built something different — practical, affordable, live training that shows you exactly what to do, not just what to say.
My Belief
Most businesses want to be inclusive.
They just don’t know where to start.
Welcome Autism gives them that starting point — clear, real-world steps that make autistic customers and their families feel safe, understood, and welcome.
It’s not about being perfect — it’s about being prepared.

Our Mission
To make every business confident in welcoming autistic people and their families —
and, over time, to create more inclusive communities and workplaces for autistic adults, too.
Small steps lead to big change.
It starts with a simple question:
“Is your business autism friendly?”
